Amsterdam is for (cheese) Lovers

(read more) The Venice of the North is the land of bicycles and cheese. We were lucky enough to spend 4 days there with the American Repertory Theatre for the world premiere of their co-production (with Toneelgroep Amsterdam) of Ola Mafaalani's "Wings of Desire" (himmel boven berlijn) at the beaux-arts Stadsschouwburg Theatre.

UPDATE: Sadly, it would prove to be our friend Robert Woodruff's own moment of triumph and farewell, as a few weeks later he would be forced out by Harvard's innate tendency to kill that which is artistically exceptional, in deference to that which is stolidly predictable.

BOO!

(read more) The scare is in the air! With the warm fall weather, there should be plenty of trick-or-treaters tonight.

Berlin

(read more) Sure, it's a long way to go for four days, but where else can you go and get a good currywurst or doner kebab? Seriously, our restauranting included only one currywurst, and that was for a photo op... Highlights included Maxwell, the venerable Lutter & Wegner, and the Ritz bar manager who had an obsessive collection of artisanal brandies... Check out our photos.

Putting out the Xmas Tree

(read more) The 14th day of Christmas, AKA the dark teatime of the holiday soul. The ornaments come off, the lights come down, and the tree goes out.

Video Games

(read more) There is a great article by MIT Professor of Comparative Media Henry Jenkins on the myths surrounding video games and kids. (Note: there's also a great quiz section.) image

Happy Holidays Finally!!

(read more) Well, we finally got around to putting out a holiday card. The first time ever, so that's saying something. Just uploaded to CVS/Kodak and had it delivered to our local store for pickup. Not sure I'd do it this way again (quality, turnaround), but it's better than anything we've done in the past (i.e., nothing).
